Image Description

This image was made while on an assignment for The National Geographical Magazine for a story on the Flamingoes of East Africa. One of the lakes Anup covered as a part of this story  was Lake Nakuru, where Flamingoes arrive in large numbers. A bird flying overhead spooked them and as they rushed to take to the air Anup panned the camera to get a feeling of motion.

The Photographer / Artist

Anup Shah, Kenya / UK

Anup was born in Kenya. A favourite activity while growing up there was visiting the national parks. Over time, he developed a fundamental urge to express, by giving shape and form, to what he thought and felt about wild open spaces and their wild inhabitants.

Anup received his first National Geographic assignment in 2001, which was followed by seven more assignments. He also had over 100 features published across every major publication in the world. He has been featured in “The World’s Top Wildlife Photographers” book (Rotovision 2004) and in Horzu Magazine (February 2010) as one of the five best wildlife photographers in the world. He is also one of the 10 Masters featured in the book, “Masters of Nature Photography” (Natural History Museum, September 2013).

Author of 12 photography driven books, Anup had 3 solo exhibitions of his work in 2016-17 in Italy, Japan and India respectively.
